| | UKWEBCOMIXTHING 2006 Review « Thread Started on Mar 14, 2006, 12:53pm » | |
Myself and James started our journey to London at eight thirty Saturday Morning. Both sleepy but ready for our very own Muppet Caper, The music of choice in the car was Bon Jovi and Take That (Although I refuse to comment on how happy we are they have reformed). After my great map reading ability's and James patience we finally arrived at the Queen Mary University, Mile End, London for WEBCOMIXTHING 2006.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/greathall.jpg) Once again James found a great place to park (Right next to the event hall) and we started to unload our gear for the day.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/SP_A0330.jpg) After spending about forty five minutes trying to put up a display stand that we had brought (Which James split his finger open on in the process) we concentrated on making our table looking lovely and nice looking for the people outside.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/JamiePortent1.jpg) Launching two new comics at the event AKA HALO SLIPPING #1 and ROB AND DUCKY #2 we made sure they took prominent place on the table. By the time we had done that 10am had arrived which meant doors opening. We were off...slowly.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/1f965a5d.jpg) Still trying to stop the blood flowing from his finger from the slicing incident James and myself started using a bit of Essex Boy charm to pimp the Portent word, and to a great start. With plenty of interest in HALO and R+D #2 our cash tin started to rattle and my maths skills put to the test. Once we got a quiet period and I checked James was not in danger of needing a blood transfusion I ventured from our table to have a look around the hall and spend some cash. First stop was the Tozzer table ( http://tozzer.com/ ) to say hello to creators Pete and Rob. If you have not read these guys work I suggest you check it out as its funny as f...anyway.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/tozzer.jpg) Eager to catch up with the guys and buy a T-Shirt I babbled on abit (Both looked like they were nodding off) and went to hand over some cash for a REVENGE OF THE SHIT t-shirt when Rob suddenly informed me. "Erh...Pete forgot them" Quickly putting my cash back in my pocket I asked about Tozzer 3 and they were both very hush, hush (You heartless evil people) and Pete said something about "When someone gets their finger out". Sensing a fight may break out between the pair any second I moved on to the one table that is never void of eager punters...yeah that's right, BRODIES LAW ( http://www.brodieslaw.com/ ).
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/brodies.jpg) After fighting my way to the front of the table I said hello to Daley and David (Daley's hand shake being one of the most painful...EVER). After finding out what the duo had been up to and repeatedly asking about #7 I learned everything in the Brodie camp was smelling of roses.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/ClosePortent.jpg) Suddenly realising I had been away for a good half hour I made a quick stop at the table of Ali Graham creator of HOUSD ( http://housd.net/) to pick up the latest issue and made my way back to see if James was still alive and not looking like Mr Orange form Reservoir Dogs. As I did go back I was pleased to see so much variety offered by people who had obviously been working hard to make their bits and bobs look fantastic. When I did get back to our table (Finally) I need not of worried about James as he was OK and passing over one more copy of HALO to a chuffed customer. The afternoon seemed to go slowly and at one point I started singing songs from the Team America movie (I suggest not singing the Aids one as it does not go down well). Rob from Tozzer appeared with the dreaded "Tozzer Cam" which meant I instinctively dived under the table (Having felt the wraith of it before. As compensation I demanded he buy issues 1 and 2 of COWBOY JACK...which he did.
![[image] [image]](http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/portentcomics/SP_A0315.jpg) As the end of the day got near and looking over how well we done ROB AND DUCKY had been our best selling comics of the day closely followed by HALO SLIPPING. We also sold a few of PORTENTS previously released titles meaning we made the money back for the table. Overall the event was a good day (Alot better than last year) and we hopefully made a few more fans. James and I would like to thank Patrick Findlay for the hard work he put in for organising the day and I am sure PORTENT will return in 2007 for more.

I have restrained from posting a reply to the spammer as it would of been pretty harsh but I see THE LUKE has done it already.
